Pianogrillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sicilia - 16.9 oz - New Harvest 2010/2011 Review

Pianogrillo extra virgin olive oil comes from the Monte Iblei Mountains, in Eastern Sicily, in the province of Ragusa. The numerous awards this oil boasts are a testimony to its excellence. The maker of Pianogrillo, our friend Lorenzo Piccione - a member of the prestigious "Corporazione dei Mastri Oleari" - has invested a lot of time and passion and his efforts have been rewarded: as Sicilian as any oil can be, fruitiness, spiciness and a refreshing artichoke aftertaste, all come together in a low acidity, golden green bottle of magnificent oil. The cultivars responsible for this elegant fusion are Tonda Iblea, Moresca, Nocellara and just recently Carolea, a new olive tree on the grove. Pianogrillo olives are harvested between October and December, handpicked and cold pressed in the family's olive mill. There's no limits to the use of Pianogrillo: soups, legumes, salads, fish and meats will all benefit from the complex aroma of this oil. Read more...
